Rubona, Uganda

We built a school to
build opportunity.

On February 6, 2023, we opened Kunihira Primary School and gave more than 250 children a safe place to learn. There's still more to do.

Our Story

The children find joy in simplicity.

Deep in Rubona, a village that sits quietly at the base of the Rwenzori Mountains, bright smiles from the country's youngest residents light the space around them. A soccer ball made from garbage bags provides hours of entertainment — because there's nothing else. They have big dreams, to become doctors and lawyers, and even bigger spirits.

But opportunity is rare. Building for Bridget will change that.

“How are you? I am fine.”

It's all they know. But we won't let it be the only English they ever learn. In an overpopulated country where jobs are scarce and poverty reigns, parents often see more value in having children work in the fields rather than receive an education.

We built Kunihira — which translates to “Hope” — to give local families easy access to a quality education: one that we hope will help break the cycle of poverty and open new opportunities for our students. Together, we can make a difference in these children's lives.

Meet Bridget

One of the brightest lights I've ever seen.

I first met Bridget on a trip to Uganda in 2015. Like the other children, she was curious about my light skin and long dresses. Unlike the other children, she wasn't shy to show her interest. Barely able to walk, Bridget toddled over to me. I lifted her onto my lap, and we've been best friends ever since.

Her spirit is what inspires me. We built for Bridget, and the children like her, because they deserve a brighter future. They deserve to know their dreams can come true.

We built a school!

The best way to break the cycle of poverty is through education.

That's why we created Building for Bridget in 2019. Now — thanks to a lot of hard work and the generous donation of time, talent, and treasure from so many people — Ugandan children have a safe place to believe in the power of their dreams.

But our work isn't done. To better support our students, please consider a donation of any amount. Together, we are making a difference.
